New York Fashion Week has a center and that center is the machine.

ONE BOND!

1 's Carola : Crackling all the right signals for FW111 's Carola: Crackling all the right signals for FW11

The next time a friend from foreign shores touches down in NYC and rings me up asking for a quintessential city street, I'm going to lead her straight to Bond Street.

Ladies and gentlemen, a world premiere. Lily Dillon a/k/a Rie Rasmussen has issued a beautiful book of her drawings and photographs where she works out a fascinating duality between being the object and the object maker. Last time I saw Rie she had been laying the book out in her Soho loft , with a grid of images arrayed all over its walls. How thrilled I was to see the physical book sitting on a desk at 1 Mgmt when I popped in to say hello to Scotty Lipps. In addition to the book Rie is also wrapping up post-production on her first feature film. Dear God, the life force in that woman. Its epic !

Current Listening: Calvin Harris:Merrymaking At My Place

Calvin Harris: I Created Disco:Calvin Harris: I Created Disco:

Had a lunchtime meet with Scott Lipps at 1 Mgmt today. Scotty always knows what's new and now in music. I said "Name that one group/band/song/ that is ruling it right now". Scott knows I'm an ex-club kid and lifetime dancehead and recommended Calvin Harris "I Created Disco" . "Very you," he assured. "Merrymaking At My Place" is getting played a lot at places like The Rose Bar down at The Gramercy he assured. I Myspaced Calvin Harris and like the wiggle of his boogie. And I love his mythology. Nice Scottish boy from Dumfries becomes ill as a teen, locks himself in his room for two years and starts to make dream dance music on his ancient Amiga computer. He works at the local supermarket saving enough to move to London. London proves to be so expensive he works all the time and makes no dosh , so moves back (tail between legs) to Dumfries. He almost gives up, but gives the dream one more try, even warbling on his new tracks. He puts em up on Myspace in 2005. Next thing you know he draws a manager, Pete Tong starts banging "The Girls" in his sets, Columbia signs Calvin up and Kylie's people call up to write some tracks ("Into My Arms", "Heartbeat Rock") for the new album. Now the boy is a superstar producer with a band and everything. I find all this truly inspiring. If it is all a hustle its all the more genius for it!

The Social Climber's Guide to NY: Thursday Night Special

Purple # 8 Starring Andre Ph. Terry Richardson b/w ThE Dash Snow bookPurple # 8 Starring Andre Ph. Terry Richardson b/w ThE Dash Snow book

True quote of the day:
"With fashion, a lot of people get it but how many can give it?"

The mobs may have been screaming for Carrie Underwood, Jessica Alba and Nicole Ritchie at Fashion Rocks but a clique of cool kids kept it really real on Grand Street as 3 gallaries had simultaneous openings. Marilena Borgna's "Rock n Roll Diaries" launch at the Dactyl Foundation got premium young fashion points . Probably because of Marilena's past stint as casting director of sorts for Vogue Italia, many a model was there. The photographs (which were incidental to the kids assembled) were actually color xeroxes taped to the wall. Very teenaged bedroom reverie. There were two A-list Italian Vogue cover girls in the house (Adina + DJ Agyness jacking the decks with co-hort Jacky)
Kate Bosworth toy boy James Rousseau was there. Evening's host Scott Lipps was present hob nobbing with lots of mister hipsters. I bet a few of them were massive rock stars of the ARCKID ilk. Where, oh where does he find the energy? Incroyable! My co-hort Betty Sze was snapping away... so this evidence you'll see on MDC later today.
