Bernadette Corporation is back in the air. I attended a show of their's once, back when I was dreaming of getting into...all this . Didn't have a ticket. Totally crashed. It was in a nightclub. I think The Roxy. It was at the end of the 90's. There was smoke. There was a Chinese style military display of flags. Then, I believe...some sort of Latina girl segment. I remember hair-nets. And black lipstick. It was an extravaganza. And a spectacle. Very New York and so cool it hurt. One didn't know what to make of it. And now suddenly Bernadette Corp is history. They're getting head nods from style.com and props from Pop via a cache of Wolfgang Tilmans pics.
Bernadette Corporation has the right pedigree, the precise degree of irony and mischief. We love that. Listen to their recent mission statement:
"The idea behind Bernadette Corporation is an update of the old idea of doing something productive. Rather than assert itself as final and revolutionary in the modern tradition of modern art, this group mimics the presence of a corporation, building up an image around an ever present logo, unleashing various products onto the (cultural) marketplace, becoming a versatile body in a rapid system of change"
Welcome back Bernadette Corporation and Company!
