So much gossip, rumours and innuendo going on here. What's the real scoop? The New York Times has reported Naomi's and Stephanie Seymour's reasons for not attending. The "shit-starter" Page Six reports that Christy is out of the country and that she was a regular attendee at the event in the past (false - she hasn't been a "regular" in several years). There hasn't been a peep from Linda's camp. So is it true that Azzedine Alaia made dresses for these girls and asked them not to wear them at the last minute, thus explaining their absences? This is insanely bizarre.

Yes. Alaia got snubbed in the exhibit, which is extremely odd since he was one of the supermodel-makers, so he asked the 7 models who supposedly will wear his dresses (including Naomi, Linda, Stephanie and Veronica Webb) to not wear it anymore. They didn't want to (not represent his work) so they simply decided not to go as a show of support.
Although, I tend to think that it was a domino effect: Alaia isn't coming so Naomi said "I would also not attend' then Linda said "If you two are not going then me neither!" then Stephanie said "Me neither! F*** that gala!" then the others also followed.. I bet they were having their own party during the gala. lol

Image originally a Spring /Summer 1991 Dolce & Gabbana ad campaign for the "Love" collection. Do you know what I love about the shot? I can see La Evangelista's skin. Her skin is real and textured ...not digitally polished to look like plastic. Over-production I think has turned a whole generation of girls into inanimate digital cartoons. Take away the skin you lose the human being. Nobody can identify with a plastic girl I fear.

Thanks. I suspected that it was Meisel but had no idea it was for a Dolce & Gabbana campaign. I just ordered the book from Amazon and I'll be watching my mailbox like a hawk!
And I'm feeling you about today's "digitally polished" skin. Everything is enhanced these days and it is not only the skin. Bigger legs, thinner legs, arms, eyes, etc., all can be achieved through digital editing. It's the norm now.
