The JAMES TRUMAN TRUTH Of It ALL

Helmut Lang: Journal Gallery exhibitionHelmut Lang: Journal Gallery exhibition

10 years from now, when all things Zeroes are dredged up in the spirit of ironic retro, will they look at the decade's sustained fusion of art and fashion and giggle? Or will the union of the two most compulsive by-products of late capitalism spawn a deadly serious new hybrid, one with an unnatural long life? It is certainly starting to look that way recently with virtually every fashion publication worth its pulp splicing in a heavy dose of "art" to keep the pages crisp and current.

A MOST BECOMING LEGEND

Naomi Campbel: IMG: Looking Ultra-Legendary!Naomi Campbel: IMG: Looking Ultra-Legendary!

I was in Atlanta this weekend (long story) and got cursed out by a certain casting director for Miss Naomi Campbell being at #13 on the MDC Icons list. "But it's SEASONAL" I bleated, "Not based on life long legacy. It says WORKING Icons not "Top 15 Icons Ever Of All Times Based On Their Compelling Fabulousness". Well with Ms Campbell's W cover this summer (featuring her very controversial, but undeniably legendary "Community Service" edit ), her Oct 07 ID cover+ her spot in the upcoming SS08 LV ads and now this jaw dropping Blackglama ad, I might just have to eat those words. This woman truly, truly is an incredible fashion model of historic significance. Look at the life force in those eyes. Whatever your moral stance on fur, this Blackgama image proves that Naomi actually belongs in the company of legends like Dietrech. Maybe it is time to dig up that Naomi Q+A I taped a while back but never ran. It was supposed to be in conjunction with an idea a friend of hers had about compiling a collection of Naomi's "20 Greatest Images Ever" to celebrate her 20th year as a model. The conversation started out a little tense because I could sense Miss C was a bit distracted but as it warmed up I found her to be actually incredibly funny and humble about the turn towards massive fame that her life had involved. Soon as I track it down (I never throw anything out) I'll add to this post. Stay tuned!
