It's good to have your antenna up these days. A few posts back TI dug up a 90's Mugler shoot for Playboy. Today we got the hot tip that Playboy France just got a blue chip launch. The first issue featured Juliette Binoche on the cover shot by Karl Lagerfed. Here's a sneak peek of the second cover shoot (December) shot by Greg Kadel featuring actress Julie Orden. The styling was done by the inimitable Natasa Vojnovic. Click on the image then choose the "Original" option for the full Julie O experience. That makes it all the more fetishistic, right?

Mugler's Playboy Legacy

Thierry Mugler for Playboy 1999Thierry Mugler for Playboy 1999

Did you know the January 1999 issue of Playboy magazine featured a layout photographed by designer Thierry Mugler titled "Sex Couture". The concept and staging is very very...mannered (note the amatuerism of the mise en scene where the hat on the foreground figure cuts off the leg of the woman in the background). I do love, however, that the hats and the tuxes the women wear have exactly the same textural quality. You realize that women like this could only live in Monsieur Mugler's head! And Terry Richardson thought he knew what transgression was. You can buy this image at playboy.com as a part of their "Legacy" collection.

Staged in a 30,000 sq foot space the expo runs from Dec 2-9th and is curated by the legendary Marion de Beaupre' . It features the work of photographers Miles Aldridge, Matthew Brookes, Elaine Constantine,Christiane Draffehn, Juan Gatti, Rene Habermacher and Jannis Tsipoulanis, Seb Janiak,Jean Pierre Khazem, David Lachapelle, Serge Lutens, Ali Mahdavi, Jean Baptiste Mondino, Thierry Mugler, Michael James O'Brien, Stephane Sednaoui, David Seidner, Wing Shya, Kanjo Take, Max Vadukul, Willy Vanderperre and Ellen von Unwerth. What we're most excited about is a chance to encounter the work of Lutens. The full on fantasia that his late 60's and 70's work involves looks especially right for now and is ready for the inevitable revival. Plus Thierry Mugler's work with the his fearless vamps posed against monumental architecture is ready to be jacked by some smart young photographer. Jumping on THAT bandwagon, pronto!
