Prada FW 07 Natalia Chabanenko's closing look via catwalking.comPrada FW 07 Natalia Chabanenko's closing look via catwalking.com

And there you have it . Prada has fired its full fuselage for Fall/Winter 2008 and it was what everyone expected but no-one quite anticipated. After a while the mannequins stopped looking like lace laden bourgeoise girls on their way to lunch and morphed into these fantastical shipwrecks barnacled in corals and shells . Opinions on the beauty or the ugliness of this are- as is the intention- divided. TI dug it because apart from the proposition of dressing a woman, there was also the visual complexity involved in dressing an idea: that is bringing an abstract concept of what clothes could look like, to life. I loved that literally 35 mins after the show, it was all the Internet via yahoo.news, catwalking.com and thefashionspot.com. That's the modern world for you and I love the buzz-words that these fashion fanatic kids are using to decode what they saw. Prada is all about whimsy and whimsy saw Catherine McNeil, Isabeli and Anouck slinking alongside the severe Prada regulars....Hooray for whimsy... But now TI is rubbing the crystal ball overtime to get some glimmer of what's brewing over at Balenciaga. Capes? Leather? Batwings? Seminary manners as a look? Time to activate the Paris cell of the Hiss Squad!

Dazed & Confused

Jourdan's edits are sick.

music

does anyone know the name of the music of this show?

JOURDAN DUNN

The most compelling aspect of this show was the fact that Jourdan Dunn walked the runway. Ms. Prada has stayed very loyal to her palete regarding models, so the idea of a Black girl walking in a Prada show is quite extrodinary, not quite sure why you overlooked that?

Jourdan at Prada as the most normal thing in the world

Dear Anonymous,
Well I do think it was fantastic to see Jourdan at Prada but while I respect that this was the most compelling aspect of the show for you that does not mean it was the most compelling aspect of the show for me personally. I think it was great to cast Jourdan and I know that this will inspire all those other designers who look to the Prada catwalk for inspiration to also have an open mind. However as a journalist I think it would have been vulgar for me to run a "Black Girl Does Prada" headline as if it were an unimaginable anomaly. I think it is just much more elegant to accept Jourdan's presence there as being perfectly appropriate to the collection as in "The Gorgeous Jourdan Does Prada. Full stop" But that's just me. The way I react to things is peculiar to my personality. When something that should happen, does happen, it just seems like the most normal thing in the world.

Cheers
W

Dear Wayne- first off I was

Dear Wayne- first off I was not expecting or insinuating that you do a "Black Girl does Prada headline. The sheer fact that you did an previous posting informing us readers that there is buzz going around about Prada looking for Black girls, I just thought you would of wrote about Jordan making the cut, thats all. In any case there is nothing vulgar about commenting on the progression, and a sense of change in casting. This is an important step, Robin Givhan the pulitzer prize fashion critic of the Washington post didn't think it was vulgar to comment on the fact the Calvin Klein designer Francisco Costa broke the mold and used a black model for the first time this season. The whole normal thing is a great way to digest this, and I wish I could be as trancendent..

I apreciate your point.

...and I thank you for keeping the conversation at TI lively and hope you keep it coming. The main point here is different people react to things differently. Difference (as in difference of opinion) is important. I'm just speaking for myself here...not for you...not for Robin Ghiven. I'm actually apreciative that you are being blunt about how you feel. But I don't like to lie about what I think. It's really hard for me to explain it better than that. Vulgar might have been a haughty word but I think I used it out of a sense of exhaustion over the idea that Jourdan walking Prada is an event. I don't think of Jourdan or Liya or Chanel Iman or Kinee walking shows as revolutionary. I really, really think it should be the normal way of things and that's how I'm going to continue responding to it.Hope you can forgive me (wink)

Sasha!

Wayne do you know where Sasha and Raquel Zimmermann are?
Please tell us as sasha not at prada = bad. lol.

Sasha

why Sasha P. wasn't at prada?

Sasha's in NY

According to Sasha's agent she has been sick for awhile...which is why she only walked Anna Sui in NY. She hopes to feel well enough to go to Paris.

Taste is a dictatorship.
