CURRENT LISTENING: AVRIL 14th: APHEX TWIN

Electronic musicians sneaking away from the grind grind of the machine and exploring music within the "classical" European style has become its own tradition. For my my money no-one did it better than Apex Twin, specifically on his landmark "Richard H James" LP, rightfully hailed by NME as one of the greatest albums of the 90's. Electronic music shares something very similar with the high velocity fashion trade. Both industries are so modish that its hard to appreciate the great work being emitted in the field at the time of the creation. Looking back in retrospect, the delicacy of the composition within a framework of simplicity is the sign of Apex Twin, as not only a great producer, but a gracefully accomplished musician. Avril 14th has surfaced in films ( Sofia Coppola's "Marie Antoinette"), in other musician's oeuvre ("Blame Game") and stands the possibility of earning a bonanza in future fees. Methinks it has earned its status as a stealth anthem for a generation.

Taste is a dictatorship.
