BRINGING BACK BEAUTIFUL

Marilyn's Constance typifies the new client push towards conventional beautyMarilyn's Constance typifies the new client push towards conventional beauty

Sifting through the tea leaves of the early SS 09 bookings, TI is noticing that what was suspected has become fact. "Beautiful"... in the classic, conventional and comfortable sense of the word is back big time with the directional clients that dominate the cultural moment . The heavy air of fear and anxiety that hangs over the industry has provided a boom of bookings of the distinctly gorgeous girls but what is most interesting about this twist in the trends is how, once again New York City's circle of designers and casting directors failed to snap up some of those key faces at the Spring shows.
Take Marilyn's Constance for instance. This is a girl who several key designers turned down due to the fact that she was not an "effortless fit". Meaning she had that great flaw of having a whisper of cleavage. Cut to Milan and Paris. The same girl who could not be successfully fitted for shows in NYC somehow managed to squeeze into the clothes for the likes of Versace and Vuitton , Dolce and Dior. Now she stands a great chance to break out as one of the key editorial and campaign girls of this "beautiful" moment . True, there was no Prada, Jil Sander or Balenciaga in Constance's breakout mix but as the Hiss Squad has been whispering, even those experimental houses have been grooming and polishing, the most safe and sell-able girls the budget can buy for the SS 09 campaigns. Fashion is change and while I'll miss the presence of the more unorthodox girls that floated up in recent years to push Chanel and Dior and Givenchy I for one am very curious to see how that SS 09 ad casting landscape will read come January.

beauty

beauty is unforgettable, unique, mesmerizing and evokes emotion upon a look.
Beauty is never blase or common, this girl among the rest of the 'beautiful' type
girls making their sounds this minute seem to lack true uniqueness and the ability
to be unforgettable.

Love Constance...she

Love Constance...she unconventionally conventional. A supreme example of a girl that represents the transition from awkward to classic. Plus, she has a body to die for and has the walk. I mean, have you seen her appearence at Vuitton? She formed a huge contrast with some of the rest of the cast, like Inna Pilipenko and Kate Somers.

PS: She wasn't at Dior, though....

Conventional Beauty?

I'm sorry.
I have read your blog for months and sometimes quietly disagree, but this is ridiculous.
As someone who does try to represent "true beauty" in the fashion world. This is NOT even close.
Again, a 15 year old boy with a wig.
Let's get back to what we all knew in the 90's....true beauty doesn't appeal to everyone. But you know it when you see it.
A beautiful woman is a WOMAN.

The thing about "you know it when you see it"...

..is different people see different things. Which we all have a right to do no?

What?

There's nothing remotely boyish about this girl. I'd say she's every bit as "womanly" as your precious supermodel crowd. A glowing beauty with boobs and hips.

Odd

I think we've all come to terms with the "beautiful" push, but there's nothing going on at the Balenciaga campaign casting that would suggest "safe" and "sellable." There's a wonderful cast brewing there... ;)

!

Supreme is scoring big there with Hanne and others

Gee was that a plug for

Gee was that a plug for Supreme or what????

I thought these comments were about Constance and real beauty.

Constance is so much more than a "haircut girl" and perfectly suited for the times.

No

The comment was about Balenciaga. Not real beauty.

Calm down .... no need to

Calm down .... no need to get bitchy... Constance is beautiful and certainly one of the more interesting of the new crop... but hiss has it that there COULD be a classic beauty going at Balenciaga and not from Supreme either...

Taste is a dictatorship.
