ALEX BOX'S RISING STOCK

I once asked a fashion photographer what was the criteria he used to differentiate (that crucial word these days) between a good make-up artist and a bad make-up artist. He schooled me to the fact that in his eyes, good make-up artists are like the kids in art school who drew really well. "Some people just have a "hand". Its a gift that you can improve but you have to have that gift of drawing on faces in the first place". This brings me to alex Box who has been doing the make-up at Gareth Pugh several seasons now. Box is a fine artist who crossed over to the world of make-up but to keep her fine arts eye sharp, box created a series of collages which I still have pinned up on my inspiration board. This particular image, culled from "Big" magazine completely captures the mind numbing frenzy that the girls go through backstage. I love the multi-disciplinary kids!

Kudos to Talented Make-up Artists

I can appreciate Alex Box's abilities. It takes true artistic talent to make the "good" category. Kevin Aucoin was in that category and never ceased to amaze me with his talent, and impressed me even more when makeup trends became more natural in the early-mid 90s, and a quick study of his collaborative work with Steven Meisel and Linda Evangelista reveals an artist of multifaceted abilities. Alex Box deserves every accolade that comes her way.

Taste is a dictatorship.
