EARLY WARNING SYSTEM: MATTIJS

Mattijs is showing up on all the right radars!Mattijs is showing up on all the right radars!

Well I have to thank the legion of tipsters to TI in these dog days of summer when fashion news tends to slow down. From reader Jolanda Smit at Pressroom PR in London we got this hot tip on Dutch designer Mattijs.

I hope this email finds you well.

Just came back from Amsterdam, where Dutch young designer Mattijs
presented his second collection 'Into The Sun'. His show was part of the
Dutch fashion salon Prelude, which coincides with Amsterdam International
Fashion Week taking place from July 19th-28th.

It seems Dutch Design is taking the fashion world by storm. Design duo
Viktor&Rolf charmed the world with their artisan fashion collections,
architect Rem Koolhaas collaborated on several projects with Miucci Prada
and Lucas Ossendrijver is the main man behind Lanvin menswear.

Budding designer Mattijs is tipped by the Dutch Fashion Foundation as 'the
one to watch'. His talent has not gone unnoticed by Mrs B at Browns, who
will be stocking his AW08 collection in Browns Focus.

selection of preview images.

I would love to hear your thoughts, many thanks.

With kind wishes,
Jolanda

MATTIJS AT PRELUDE
The Dutch Fashion Foundation presented 'Prelude' on Monday 22 July, and
organised an exclusive salon programme taking place at the grandeur back
drop of the City Archives of Amsterdam / De Bazel Conference Centre. Other
showcases included Sjaak Hullekes, Sebastic, Corné Gabriëls, and Marcha
Huskes who next to Mattijs also debuted this season.

All eyes were on the show stopper of the evening Mattijs. For SS09,
Mattijs' collection shows a sense of spectacle and classic greatness.
Mattijs playfully mixes bold volumes with strong stylish pieces. Designing
glamour with an edge, Mattijs' modern woman enjoys to be seen in a risque
palette of colours. Mattijs van Bergen was born and raised in the Eastern
part of The Netherlands. His mother's skill and passion for textile
materials made as much an impression on him as the virtuosity of his
father's graphic designs. For Mattijs, designing is about finding a
balance between the emotional and glamorous, craftsmanship and luxury. In
2006 Mattijs won the prestigious 'Modern Feminity' award in the Dutch
Lancome Colour Design Awards. He graduated from the renowned ArtEZ
Institute of the Arts in Arnhem, The Netherlands, the same school as
Viktor & Rolf, with whom he later completed his internship.

Every fashion season the Dutch Fashion Foundation presents the best new up
and coming talent at Prelude. For four seasons, the designers have the
opportunity to present their collections at a high-end level in the form
of a catwalk show, tableau vivant or other installation. Car giant
Mercedes-Benz is the main sponsor of the event and with Prelude it wants
to stimulate international recognition for the Dutch fashion industry.
This collaboration is ongoing and growing, hence the launch of the
Mercedes-Benz Dutch Fashion Awards last year. The second edition of the
Awards will take place on 7th November 2008. The evening was sponsored by
Dior, Moet&Chandon, Vitra, Mercedes-Benz, Bols Amsterdam, World Fashion
Centre, Amsterdam Arts Foundation.

Mattijs, Marcha Huskes and Sjaak Hulekes are also selected by the Dutch
Fashion Foundation to participate at Dutch Touch, a fashion platform set
up to support Dutch talent internationally.
