Nathan Coley has a message for you
TI loves structure in everything we do. British artist Nathan Coley, nominated for a Turner Prize in 2007, creates installations driven by architectural theory and ideas. This is the artist, for instance who created a scale model of the Manchester Marks and Spencer building which was damaged by an IRA bomb and subsequently demolished. Think of the aesthetic possibilities of an artist who revists lost sites, ghost monuments and evaporated buildings. In his new work at the Haunch of Venison gallery in Berlin he creates a Western film set facade in the gallery. I love though that he renders the buildings in a kind of black wood. Coley finds the ghosts in our monumental 20th century structures and that is humanistic and poetic and inspiring!
