Purple # 8 Starring Andre Ph. Terry Richardson b/w ThE Dash Snow book
True quote of the day:
"With fashion, a lot of people get it but how many can give it?"
The mobs may have been screaming for Carrie Underwood, Jessica Alba and Nicole Ritchie at Fashion Rocks but a clique of cool kids kept it really real on Grand Street as 3 gallaries had simultaneous openings. Marilena Borgna's "Rock n Roll Diaries" launch at the Dactyl Foundation got premium young fashion points . Probably because of Marilena's past stint as casting director of sorts for Vogue Italia, many a model was there. The photographs (which were incidental to the kids assembled) were actually color xeroxes taped to the wall. Very teenaged bedroom reverie. There were two A-list Italian Vogue cover girls in the house (Adina + DJ Agyness jacking the decks with co-hort Jacky)
Kate Bosworth toy boy James Rousseau was there. Evening's host Scott Lipps was present hob nobbing with lots of mister hipsters. I bet a few of them were massive rock stars of the ARCKID ilk. Where, oh where does he find the energy? Incroyable! My co-hort Betty Sze was snapping away... so this evidence you'll see on MDC later today.
In the meantime while I got my ears clogged full of the idle clatter of model chatter which is my life these days.. .Critical dramas like Ralph using 50 girls. Or which two girls gained so much weight, they were allegedly pulled from show week by their agency. Perhaps we all should gain weight so we too can get our FW cancelled. Or who's dating whom, which is of critical importance to the French kids ( Oh no! She's not with Vladimir anymore. He's moved on to Lily Donaldson. Can't you tell by the Only Girl French Vogue stories?”) . Then there's intelligence coming out that Monday Sept.10th 2007 is to turn bloody in the booking wars . All the power-players in casting converge on that one day in between Maida at Jil Stuart, Russell at Philosophy, some mysterious force at Sui and KCD for Big Marc, every which girl is optioned for every which thing. Even girls not modeling anymore. I mean I do have a contact number for Sunniva so why don't we put her on hold too.... I don't know who's spreading rumors about MDC merging with CDs but it tweren't me. Kids are also very invested in Freja's new haircut which qualifies in this shallow pool as headline news. Some called it cool, other socccer mom. Me, I diplomatically asserted that maybe it was a client call. When it wasn't the models being dragged thru the gutters of Grand Street, it was the designers. Preen got applause from these hard hard b*tches today but ohhhh the unkind things said about the Marchesa. I recall one stinging slap about “a very charity donation prom dress moment” . Yeah that fit was a bit challenged but can't we find some love in our heart for a poor and struggling artist...
Purple # 8 Karen O : Ph. Terry Richardson
Speaking of which, it was time to switch channels so I left with a company of new best friends . Bypassed the scene outside gallery two which seemed too...democratic and headed to what's said to be the bitchiest gallery in town...Team Gallery for the Gradar Eide Einarsson's "Judge"opening . Maybe because there were models in our party the Teamsters dimmed the shade somewhat. Or maybe after fashion shade all other versions of shade is faint. Much like rock stars, I'm clueless as to what latter day art stars look like so I wasn't sure who to be impressed by. But I'm sure The Dash Snow Crowd was there. Or maybe it was all lookalikes.I videod them all with my new Flip cam. TI has a new art correspondent coming on board next week, so he'll sort all these people out. Once and for all.
I was hoping Andre from Le Baron would be there but didn't see him. I think he was at the Van Cleef and Arpel thing on Tues at Hammerstein. (Pics of that coming too at MDC) How we hate him!How we throb with envy. I hate that his Hotel Amour didn't call back about a room during Paris Fashion Week. I hate that I'm still going to go to Le Baron during PFW. How we loathe him on the cover of the new Purple as shot by Terry Richardson. In the back of the book, Merry Terry pops his willy out one more time in the middle of his Rio portfolio. This time its among a company of Brazilian male strippers. Brave man. PS Claudia Schiffer looks impossibly sexy in the new Purple. She's nude except for trainers in most of the snaps and Ellen von Unwerth really really turns it in this edit. It must be a kind of sweet revenge for Claudia to still look so ...incandescent. She was never a editorial pet like most in the supermodel set. On those bookings with the popular girls, they used to call her "Miss Piggy" behind her back. She once told a great story of working with a photography god who found her so “commercial” and uninspiring, he never said a word to her during the whole sitting. But she's laughing last now no? Do you suppose it was Simon Fuller who masterminded her Purple booking? What else for Purple highlights.... Pages upon pages of Shalom with no clothes on, shot by I+V. Karen O spreading her wings. Proof that Natasa Vojnovic is as commited as ever in her posing and that Denisa is gorgeous to the surreal degree. And that Lydia Hearst really really wants it. Which is to be respected. If you really want to read about Harmony Korine's comeback , now's the time. Those were today's highlights. The frisky young Brit interns in the office are off to Alexander Wang's thing so we'll hope that they come back sober and clothed. Now go buy the Purple. Its such a thing. But not for the #$%^ Andre cover. Bloody trick!
